My Cultural Experience at Brigham Young University Hawaii

Attending Brigham Young University-Hawaii is a very unique cultural experience in itself. The university has the highest percentage of international students than any other university in America. Students are represented from over 70 different countries and as one enters the grounds of the campus, he or she can see the array of multi-colored flags from diverse nations representing students who attend the university.

My experience here has been filled with cultural interaction as I have esperienced a lot of international events such as Cultural Night, Food Fest, and World Fest. In the course of my one-year and a half here I have joined and participated in the Brazilian, Tahitian, Samoan, Japanese, Russian, European clubs. I have danced from salsa, tamure and the famous samba from Brazil .

I believe it is not only a unique experience to interact with so many international students like me in the classroom, but to live and work among each other as well. I believe I am a student with a genuine interest in helping international students improve their English Skills; I have also had the added privilege of increased interaction with non-native speakers of English. I have learned how to work with others who have a different background and way of thinking than I do.

Finally, I would like to add that having the opportunity to attend BYU-Hawaii helped me value and celebrate cultures.
