During the end of winter of 2003 I set off to accomplish one of the most exciting experience in my life long dreams - to travel as a research associate for BYU-Hawaii to Phoenix. Ever since I came to BYU-Hawaii I always had a passion for research and I was determined that one day I would represent a big institution. When I was in my second year of college, I determined that now was better than ever to make my journey. I spent one year challenging months of planning, making contacts, learning about the the different subjects in linguistics, psychology, and preparing to leave. Then in May I went to Phoenix, Arizona with my Professor Lynne Hansen and my research associate friends with nothing more than our research PowerPoint presentation, and the courage to face all the graduate students in our presentation. I was off to live my dream. I spent one week week in Tempe and a bit of that time was also visiting the nearby cities in the beautiful surrounding cities. I took the opportunity to listen to all types of presentations and to meet the most prestigious people in the language field, and to learn about the different cultures that involve my profession. Before I had left for Arizona, I had created a research with professor Lynne Hansen at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, that I would conduct while I was in Arizona. I developed a research that allowed me to study and apply the vocabulary tests, phonological memory tests, and short term memory tests among returned missionaries that spent 2 years serving mission around the globe. Upon my arrival in Arizona I presented my findings and experience through a paper and PowerPoint presentation at the Arizona State University. My journey in Arizona was one of the most significant in my life. Not only did I learn that we have "the power of one" with us to accomplish our dreams and to make a positive difference for good, but I was able to more deeply understand and love a complex profession that I chose, my work group with other students, and my research associatiship.
